The orchard was my pride and joy. I soil tested and prepped all planting areas the year before I bought the trees (there are actually a dozen prepped holes I would have planted this year ready to go).
Most trees were purchased via mail order to obtain rootstocks and varieties that can handle the conditions of the state, rather than picking up trees from the local hardware store grown on rootstocks developed for dry and hot California conditions.
I used only organic sprays, specifically, copper spray, Neem oil, and liquid fish, several times a year.
Most trees are in their 3rd season and include:
-
2 peaches, one "Stellar Allstar" and one "Flamin' Fury PF Lucky 13". The fruit was so delicious that I grafted buds to 10 other peach rootstocks, but I'm not sure all of the grafts took.
-
4 apples: 1 "Enterprize" on G30 bought from the nursery of Cummins who actually created the famed Geneva rootstocks (squee!). One Arkansas Black, Pink Lady, Liberty MM106, 10 others from my first attempt at grafting.
-
4 pears, 3 Kieffer and one Orient (Kieffer pollinator).
-
2 cherries: Black Gold and Jubileum on standard (Mazzard) root.
-
2 plums: Green Gage and Stanley.
-
